(Русский) Крапчатый суслик (Spermophilus suslicus Güld.) – вид, неуклонно сокращающийся в численности по всему ареалу. Чтобы не дать виду исчезнуть, нужны срочные меры по созданию его резервных популяций.
The state nature regional wildlife refuge “Tatal-Barunsky” was created by the resolution of government of Kalmykia Republic № 316, 16th September 2016. This wildlife refuge which includes 139814,65 ha aims to protect and restore the nesting population of the Steppe eagle and other rare species.

Участники первого Международного совещания по изучению и сохранению манула в степях Северной Евразии 16-23 сентября посетили Сайлюгемский национальный парк. Совещание прошло в Новосибирске 13-15 сентября. После его окончания все желающие смогли принять участие в полевой экскурсии на хребет Сайлюгем, для того чтобы провести обследование мест обитания манула на Алтае и установить серию фотоловушек для изучения его распространения и оценки численности.
Совещание было организовано ООО «Сибэкоцентр» при поддержке проекта ПРООН/ГЭФ/Минприроды России «Совершенствование системы и механизмов управления ООПТ в степном биоме России», Международного альянса по сохранению манула (Pallas’s cat International Conservation Alliance), Фонда сохранения мелких диких кошачьих (Small Wild Cat Conservation Foundation) и организационной поддержке Даурского биосферного заповедника (Международный резерват «Даурия») и Сайлюгемского национального парка.
The meeting of participants of the Second Russian-German Youth Educational Camp «Partnership for Saving» was organised in the Orenburg reserve on 22d August, 2016.
Some key steppe areas of Kursk province were investigated by the researchers from the Kursk State University in June-August 2016 in the frames of the UNDP/GEF Steppe Project. The investigations were conducted in Gorshechensky, Manturovsky, Solntsevsky and Timsky districts.

Third Meeting of Signatories of Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Use of the Saiga Antelope was staring in Tashkent on October 26, 2015. The meeting will long till October 29 and started with the technical seminar.
Decision on annual census was a result of International expert meeting “Problems of conservation of Altai argali in Altai-Sayan Ecoregion”, held from September 28 to October 1, 2015 in Altai Republic. The seminar was initiated and supported by the Russian office WWF and Sailughemsky National Park.
Two citizens of Syria and a citizen of Azerbaijan were caught in the Kamyzyaksky steppe with Lake Ulug-Kol area of the reserve on September 8th. They hunted the falcons — birds enlisted in the Red Data Book.
Weekends for inspectors of Orenburg nature reserve in fire-hazardous season are usually not calm. The fire near the Pred-Ural Steppe wasn’t allowed to the reserve area on September 3. The steppe fire found in the Aituar steppe in the evening of 5th September was localized and extinguished to the morning of 6th September.
There was eliminated the strongest steppe fire in Kuvandyk district of the Orenburg province, Russia. The fire damaged to the residents of Vasilievka village and two other neighboring settlements – some houses were burnt. Also the fire represented danger for the Shaitan-Tau nature reserve.
Final field work on monitoring of Steppe eagle was carried out in Kalmykia in June 2015. It was made on the frames of the UNDP/GEF Steppe project in Russia and had shown the high density of the species in the region. Total 66 alive nests with 133 chicks were found. 70 chicks were ringed by color rings.
Monitoring of Steppe eagle populations was carried out in Western Kazakhstan in the frames of the UNDP/GEF Steppe Project in Russia from June 6 till July 1, 2015. Total 337 nesting areas were visited, 418 nests were observed. The chicks or clutches were found only in 138 nests. The main reason of unsuccessful nesting was fall of temperature in brooding period.
The Orenburg reserve (zapovednik) was enlarged by the government regulation of Russian Federation № 700 from July 13, 2015. New cluster «Pred-Ural Steppe» known as Orlov Steppe is situated on the border of Belyaevsky and Akbulaksky districts of the Orenburg province, the square of the cluster is 16538 ha.
In June 2015 the Pallas’ cat team set new camera traps in the Eastern Kazakhstan – in the mountains around the Zaissan lake. Camera traps were checked in the Tarbagatai ridge after a year of work.
The celebration of the Steppe Day in Kalmykia started on April 17. The most active participator was the Black Earth reserve. The staff of the reserve made lessons in schools devoted to steppe and its conservation under support of the UNDP/GEF Steppe project in Russia.
The steppe fires appear in Zabaikalsky Krai and in the vicinity of the Daursky nature reserve every year. The spring of 2015 was not the exception. The inspectors of reserve in collaboration with neighbor settlements became to extinguish the fires from March 21. In April the fires were widely distributed in the krai. Fortunately the reserve ind its wildlife refuges were on the whole saved.

The Club of Friends of WWF and the Ubsunurskaya Kotlovina reserve “Blue Bird” starts the work in the frames of the project “Adopt the Rfuge” that was initiated in the Altai Province by the NGO “Gebler’s Ecological Society” in 2006. The schoolchildren of Kyzyl will be “the chiefs” of the wildlife refuge “Ondumsky”.
Signed the agreement between Russia and Kazakhstan on prevention and extinguishing of forest and steppe fires on transboundary areas
The agreement between governments of Russian Federation and Kazakhstan Republic on prevention and extinguishing of forest and steppe fires on transboundary areas was signed during the work of X Forum of interregional collaboration of Russia and Kazakhstan, which was organized in Ekaterinburg (Russia) on November 10-11, 2013.
Three clusters of the Ubsunurskaya Kotlovina biosphere reserve – Aryskannyg, Tsugeer-Els and Yamaalyg – were investigated in the end of October.
Pilot project on prevention the death of birds on power lines began in Daghestan nature reserve. All dangerous for birds power lines around Sarykum sand will be equipped by birds protective devices.
After this slogan the 13th Meeting of the East Asian Biosphere Reserve Network was held in Ulaan-Baatar, Mongolia at October 21-25, 2013. The meeting was devoted to problems of biological and social consequences of global changes.
The parties have discussed intermediate results of joint work on conservation of transboundary populations and groups of rare and endangered species particularly questions of creation and maintaining of transboundary areas “Ubsunur” and “The Upper Reaches of the Amur”.
The first regional festival of ecotourizm “Glorified Steppe” was organized in Orlov district of Rostov province on October 10-11, 2013. The festival aimed to lay the foundation of traditionality of action, popularize nature sights of Manych Lake, increase the role of ecotourizm in Rostov province.
