Steppes diversity: Shrub steppe ecosystems

There are shrub variants of main steppe communities in all types of steppe ecosystems. The participation of mesoxerophytic and xeromesophytic shrubs is typical for steppe vegetation but often they include in the grass don’t standing out of by the height and don’t effecting the community structure. Also there is often distributed the combination of steppe and shrub communities confined to different relief positions and substrate spots. The separate variant of shrub steppe is implied if the shrubs have high abundance and determine community’s appearance. In such case the shrubs stand out against herbage by the height and size but don’t form close bushes – are evenly dispersed in the steppe herbage. The group of steppe shrubs is various. There are tens species from many genuses. The legumes have the largest importance – pea shrubs, brooms (Caragana, Chamaecythisus, Calophaca) and spiraeas, almond-trees, sloe, cherries, apricots (Spiraea, Amigdalus, Prunus, Cerasus, Armeniaca).
