The meeting on conservation of the Saiga antelope and other ungulates took place in Astana

The Secretariat of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) together with the Committee for Forestry and Hunting of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan successfully held the workshop on the implementation and coordination of the Saiga antelope (Saiga spp.) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and other CMS instruments for migratory ungulates in Kazakhstan. The workshop took place on the 17 and 18 February 2011in Astana on the premises of the Committee.

Representatives from various scientific institutions such as the Institutes of Zoology in Almaty and Tashkent as well as international and national non-governmental organizations concerned with migratory species conservation from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia attended the meeting. While the workshop focussed on Saiga MOU implementation in Kazakhstan, discussions also covered issues relating to the Bukhara deer MOU and to other migratory ungulates of Central Asia. We therefore believe that you might be interested in the meeting report and the recommendations, which havenow been published in English and Russian language on the CMS website at thefollowing link: http://www.cms.int/species/saiga/other_saiga_meetings.html.

Presentations are available also on the CMS website (only in Russian).
