In the monograph it is generalized complex materials about researches of mountainous forest-steppe landscapes in South Ural, aimed to prove and establish mountainous a state reservation «Shaytan-Tau» in Orenburgskaya oblast.

There is considered history of the reservation creation, attached key publications by S.V. Kirikov and E.V. Kucherov, who offered to organize the reservation in the southeast boundary of European oak-forest distribution within Bashkortostan.

In 2014 after annual efforts of Orenburg scientists, the south part of the Shaytan-Tau ridge as an unique island of oak-forest steppe in Eastern Europe became the Russian state reservation.

The monograph was published in the frame of the RFBR Grant 13-05-00390 «A nature reservation complex of Russia: history of creation, problems of modern development and prospects for integration into economics of the country».
